The new Fiat 500 – Car of the Year 2008 – has just been crowned Best Small Car in the annual What Diesel Car Of The Year awards.

This latest industry recognition is yet another top honour to be collected by the popular city car, which was launched in the UK in January. Up against impressive opposition, the victorious 500 impressed What Diesel’s panel of judges with its blend of style, quality and modern diesel engine technology.

It’s an important time to take a leading diesel award – with registrations of cars powered by the fuel now close to smashing the 50 per cent barrier of the new vehicle market.

In the US the 510 was sold with the L series engine. The reason why the Datsun 710, aka Violet was the most known performance Datsun of the days around the world was due in fact to the "L" series engine, and the IRS suspension , features most datsun 510s did not enjoy around the globe .The 160J Datsuns ( the IRS version Datsun 710, aka Violet.) had factory installed IRS suspension and an "L" series motor ,and this vehicle was available in more places around the globe than the 510 IRS "L" series motor.
In the US, the reverse situation happened, where a 510 "IRS" L series engined 510 was offered, while the 710 was not issued IRS suspension.
Interesting to see how the same car was offered in different configurations ,and what kind of use it was given around the world, based on those specifications.

The 2008 ZR1 Corvette is a two-seat sports car available as a targa-roof coupe, convertible, or high-performance Z06 hardtop coupe. The coupe and convertible have a 430 hp LS3 6.2-liter V-8 engine and six-speed manual transmission. An optional dual-mode exhaust boosts the horsepower to 436 hp. The ZR1 Corvette is based on the Corvette Z06′s aluminum chassis, but there are a number of slow body panels. The fuel economy range is 26 MPG/Hwy and 16 MPG/City.

When you say Chrysler and retro design, only one car comes to mind: the Chrysler Prowler. Yes, that open, Indy-racer-inspired front wheels on the Prowler are unmistakable. Chrysler engineers came up with an interesting design for the Prowler when they were given the green light to do whatever they wanted in a sportster or hot rod car. And the outcome was, of course, the Chrysler Prowler.

Manufactured in 1997 and from 1999 to 2002, the Prowler has more than just a striking retro design. On the outside, it has an aluminum body and strongly bonded components. Under the hood lies a 3.5-liter SOHC V6 engine that generates 214 horsepower. In 1999, a more powerful 253-horsepower engine replaced the original one. Both engines have four-speed automatic transmission found at the rear area of the car. A flexible driveshaft, which spins at engine speed, connects the transmission to the engine. This design allows for a good weight distribution in the car.

The gullwing Buick Riviera concept coupe was developed with global design input by the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in China, a design and engineering joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). The Riviera concept was engineered to accommodate a new hybrid system that will go into production at Shanghai GM.

To establish their styling direction for the concept, the Riviera's designers looked in part to Buick icons such as the original Y-Job Concept of 1938, the 1960s Le Sabre, Electra 225 and the Riviera coupes of the 1960s and '70s.

Bentley Motors was founded by W.O Bentley in 1919 when the first Bentley engine burst into life at new street news, London. Like most Acura models the NSX was also sold as a Honda NSX outside of the U.S. and gets its name from being the automaker’s New Sportscar eXperimental prototype. When it was introduced in 1990, the Acura NSX was the first car to feature an all aluminum chassis and introduced the U.S. to VTEC with its high revving 270 HP 3.0 Liter V6 engine before increasing displacement to 3.2 Liters for an additional 20 HP gain. In 2002 the NSX received a facelift and despite the new appearance, much of the NSX remained the same underneath until the vehicle was discontinued in 2005. Despite the modest power and somewhat dated technology, due to the NSX’s low coefficient of drag and lightweight construction, the Japanese sports car was able to compete with some of the most exotic Italian super cars of its day.
